Book Format:
Picture Book
Annotation:
This wonderfully created book brings the old folk song to life.
Personal Reaction:
Each set of pages features the old lady with candy in her pockets and a hole in her middle which shows the insect or animal she swallowed for each stanza of the song. The facing page has the stanza in large print and the last line surrounds the circles.

This is a great book for developing vocabulary for preschoolers. Lots of repetition allows for the listener to actively join in the rendition of the story. The final pages show the old lady with all the animals inside her, while the final page provides all the words for the song. Parents and teachers will have a variety of ways to utilize the book to spark interest in reading for the preschoolers they work with.
